     MOTO-SKI MODEL DECODING

(Best if viewed with  Internet Explorer)
I have been working on trying to decode Moto-Skis for quite some time now
through observation of patterns in the model numbers of different years and models and
  help from people through email.  Since I do not own every year, model, and
engine combination they made I am limited to some educated guessing. If you
find any mistakes please email me so I can make this more accurate.

Write down your MODEL number and compare it to the choices below to determine year, model, and engine
If the first three characters are numbers followed by a letter (Ex. 201H) click HERE
If the model number is made up of only 2 or 3 numbers (Ex. 42) click HERE
If the first two characters are a letter followed by a number (Ex. C3H) click HERE
If the first two characters are a number followed by a letter (Ex. 1B30H) click HERE
If the model number is made up of four numbers (Ex. 4202) click HERE

  1965-1968
Model # example:201H

1) The first three numbers designate model and year
1965
100 = short track
200 = long track

1966
101 = Cadet
150 = Capri
201 = Zephyr

1967
(no cadet in 67)
151 = Capri
202 = Zephyr

1968
102 = Cadet
152 = Capri
203 = Zephyr
303 = Zephyr
MS18 = MS-18
600-C = 600ccm Hirth Capri
600-Z = 600ccm Hirth Zephyr

2) The LAST character designates engine type (adding an "E" after denotes electric start):
H = Hirth
J = JLO
3) The LAST two characters in the SERIAL number designate
engine size and year. (I have seen an anomaly where the last digit
 did not suggest the same year as the method above, this is a curve ball I cannot account for
yet other than moto ski using up the parts bins)  Here are the engine codes I have come up with; just
remember that these are compiled through observation so there may be need for revision.
  (Example: F8)

1965
(does not follow above method)

Model 100 = 247 JLO
Model 100H = 300 Hirth
Model 200H = 300 Hirth

1966 - 1967
A = 246ccm (Cadet) 66 only
B = 300ccm (Capri) 66-67
C = 300ccm (Zephyr) 66-67

1968
A = 246ccm Hirth (Cadet)
B = 300ccm Hirth (Capri)
C = 297ccm JLO (Capri)
D = 300ccm Hirth (Zephyr)
E = 300ccm Hirth Elec. Start (Zephyr)
F = 297ccm JLO (Zephyr)
G = 372ccm Hirth Elec. Start (Zephyr)
H = 372ccm Hirth (Zephyr or MS18)
K = 297 JLO Elec. Start (Zephyr)
P = 375ccm JLO Elec. Start (Zephyr)
Q= 375ccm JLO (Zephyr)
R = 600ccm Hirth (Zephyr)
S = 600ccm Hirth (Capri)
T = 297ccm JLO (MS-18)

1969
Model # example:42

You will need to write down the SERIAL number as it contains the model year (Ex. 4269...)

1) The FIRST number designates the model:
1 = Cadet
2 = Capri
3 = Zephyr
4 = MS-18
5 = SM-Racer
2)The SECOND number designates the engine size:
(some of these are still arguable)
1 = 246ccm Hirth (82R)
2 = 300ccm Hirth (191R)
3 = 372ccm Hirth (200R)
4 = 500ccm Hirth (220R)
5 = 634ccm Hirth (171R)
6 = 297ccm JLO (L297)
7 = 375ccm JLO (L380)
8 = ???
9 = 292ccm Hirth (193R)
11 = 317ccm Hirth (192R)
3) Please note that electric start models had the model number followed by a "0".
For example a model "32" would be a "320" if it was electric.

1970
Model # example:C3H
You will need to write down the SERIAL number as it contains the model year (Ex. C3H70 ...)

1) The FIRST character designates the model:
A = Cadet
B = Capri
BR = SM-Racer
(built on capri chassis)
C = Zephyr
CR = SM-Racer
(built on zephyr chassis)
D = MS-18
G = Grand Prix
F = Mini Sno

  2) The SECOND character designates engine size:

 1 = 295ccm
2 = 317 ccm
3 = 340ccm
4 = 372ccm
5 = 380ccm
6 = 438ccm
7 = 493ccm
8 = 634ccm
9 = 300ccm
11 = 223ccm
12 = 295ccm F/A
13 = 760ccm F/A
14 = 793ccm F/A

3)The THIRD character designates engine make:
H = Hirth
J = JLO
S = Sachs

4) Also note that electric start models had the engine size character followed by a "0"
Ex. B50J

1971 - 1973
Model # example: 1B30H
(A "2" following the model number for 1973 Capris means it has slide rails Ex: 3B3S2)

1) The FIRST character determines the year:
1 = 1971
2 = 1972
3 = 1973

2) The SECOND character determines the model:
(an R following any of these model letters denotes "racer")

A = Cadet
B = Capri
C = Zephyr
D = MS - 18
F = Mini Sno

G = Grand Prix (1971)
M = "S" (1973)
N = Grand Prix (1972)
P = "SR" (1973)
T = "F" (1973)

XR = Bullet
W = moto-skeeter

3) The THIRD (and FOURTH if the fourth is also a number) character(s) determine engine size:
(Adding a 0 after an engine number denotes electric start)
0 = 223ccm E
1 = 223ccm M

2 = 292ccm
3 = 340ccm
4 = 399ccm
5 = 634ccm
6 =  793cc

 7 = 440ccm
8 = 800ccm

9 = 250ccm
10 = 170ccm
11 = 72ccm (moto-skeeter 350)
12 = 98ccm (moto-skeeter 450)
13 = 98ccm (moto-skeeter 550)
14 = 98ccm (moto-skeeter 650)
4) The last character is a letter and determines engine make:
H = Hirth
J = JLO
K = KMS
S = BSE
